Finding the best places to stay in Naples may be a bit overwhelming. This is the third largest city in Italy by population, and actually quite spread out. Since I have traveled there recently and have done a great deal of research – not to mention, I have tried several locations and some of the best hotels in Naples – I thought I’d help out.

Where To Stay In Naples, Italy

Old Town – Where to stay in Naples if it’s your first time in the city

Old Town – the Historic Center of Naples – is the most famous area of Naples, Italy. It’s definitely where to stay in Naples if it’s your first time in the city. It’s central, it has character, it has historic buildings and it’s within walking distance to almost all of the top attractions you’ll want to see in the city.

This historic center of Naples has been designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site and its history goes back 2700 hundred years. Some of the attractions you’ll find in this district include Piazza Bellini, Piazza San Domenico Maggiore, San Gregorio Armeno Church and the main tourist street Spaccanapoli.

Old Town is where you see a mix of residents going about their day and tourists admiring the sights. It’s highly walkable and there are numerous restaurants and cozy cafes for when you need to take a break.

Where to stay in Naples

Napulitandream Duomo

If you’re looking for one of the most affordable places to stay in Naples old town, Napulitandream Duomo is an excellent choice. It’s private, despite being in the center of it all, and it’s only steps away from the Museo Cappella Sansevero and many other popular sights. All rooms are air-conditioned and feature complimentary Wi-Fi and private bathrooms.

Palazzo Turchini

For something with a touch of luxury, but still at an affordable price, Palazzo Turchini is another great place to stay in Old Town. The hotel is home to a cafe, a bar and a rooftop terrace and you’ll have access to concierge service. City Hall, the metro station, the Maschio Angioino and the scenic harbor are only minutes away. This is my personal choice of where to stay in Naples – I enjoyed the location and found the staff to be extremely helpful!

La Casa Sul Nilo

If you want to go all out and splurge on your accommodations in old town, La Casa Sul Nilo is a lavish property a short distance away from the Naples National Archeological Museum, Chiesa Dei Santi Filippo e Giacomo and San Carlo Theatre. Every room features incredible views of the city and is equipped with free Wi-Fi, a fridge and air conditioning. Some rooms even have balconies.

Vomero – Where to stay in Naples for wonderful views

While there are several ways to get to the affluent hilltop neighborhood of Vomero, the most authentic and most fun way to get there is via the cable car. At the top, you’ll find a beautiful, well-manicured place with lots of lush trees and gardens.

The restaurants are trendy and refined and the cafes are outside, but the thing that Vomero is mostly known for is the incredible views that encompass the Bay of Naples, Capri, Vesuvius, and the rest of the city. Some of the attractions you’ll find here include Castel Sant’Elmo Fortress, Piazza Vanvitelli, and Villa Floridiana. Vomero is also where to stay in Naples if you want to escape the crowds of Old Town.

Residenza Scarlatti

Looking for a place to stay in Vomero on a budget? Yes, such places exist in this upscale neighborhood and Residenza Scarlatti is a great choice! At this place, you’ll get to enjoy those amazing views the area is known for, and you’ll kick back in a room that has free Wi-Fi, a terrace, air conditioning, a television, coffee-making facilities and a private bathroom. Car rental service and a paid shuttle to the airport are also available.

Suite Scarlatti

Suite Scarlatti is another affordable option in Vomero but you’ll also be able to enjoy an on-site Italian breakfast each morning and you can choose a room with a scenic balcony. Your room comes equipped with free Wi-Fi, a private bathroom, air conditioning and a television. Attractions, such as Galleria Borbonica, Piazza Plebiscito and Maschio Angioino are only two kilometers away.

La Dimora Dei Reali

La Dimora Dei Reali is a luxury property in Vomero so you can expect top-quality amenities. The spacious rooms feature televisions, private bathrooms, air conditioning, free Wi-Fi, terraces and kitchenettes with refrigerators, stoves and toasters. You will get enjoy all this set to the backdrop of stunning views of the sea.

Chiaia – One of the best places to stay in Naples

Chiaia is another upscale neighborhood in Naples that’s situated on the waterfront and includes parts of the historic centre and Mergellina areas. Chic boutiques, stylish cocktail bars, seafood restaurants and high-end shops line the streets. Some of the prominent attractions in this area include Villa Comunale and Villa Pignatelli.

Il Salotto – Bed & Breakfast

For a cozy and private experience on a budget, Il Salotto Bed & Breakfast is the perfect place to stay in the Chiaia neighborhood. All rooms feature a comfortable seating area, a television and a refrigerator. You’ll also enjoy a traditional Italian breakfast every morning.

Another upscale area of Naples is Posillipo which is located on a leafy hillside overlooking the sea. Although it’s a little off the beaten path as far as touristy areas go, there are still many interesting things to see here including Pausilypon archaeological park, Parco Virgiliano and some nice beaches. The neighborhood is a fascinating mesh of old, dilapidated buildings and refined seaside living.

Napoli D’Amare B&B

If you thought budget accommodation was out of reach in a district as high-end as Posillipo, nothing could be further from the truth. If you’re seeking a base in a Naples neighborhood that is central, close to many attractions and bustling with activity, and from where you can easily reach nearby places to visit such as Pompeii and the Amalfi Coast, the area near the Central Station has many accommodation options. The center of this area is the lively Piazza Garibaldi which is one of the biggest squares in the city.

This is where people-watching is taken to a whole new level! People shopping, people racing to catch a train, people admiring stately buildings and people selling various items. The underground shopping center is a popular draw to this area but it’s also where you’ll find Porta Capuana and a number of beautiful churches and cathedrals.

B&B Blue Crystal

If you’re trying to save some money so you can see more of Naples and the rest of Italy, B&B Blue Crystal is one of the best places to stay in Naples on a budget.
