The surrounding hills are rich with olive trees and grape vines, lending a rustic feel to the village.

Monterosso is the northernmost of the five villages that make up Cinque Terre. It’s also the largest and easiest to access by car, and with a selection of hotels, restaurants and entertainment options, it’s also one of the most popular places to stay in Cinque Terre.
The town is divided into two – old and new Monterroso. Both are connected by a pedestrianized tunnel. It’s also in Monterosso that you’ll find the only sandy beach in the Cinque Terre, and for that reason, Monterosso gets very busy in the summer months.

Further south along the Ligurian coast from Monterosso is the stunningly photographic Vernazza. Set along a natural pier of rock, this port town is a jumble of colorful houses, blue seas, and hidden piazze. There are no cars allowed in Vernazza, and partly for that reason, this feels the most authentic of the fishing villages of the Cinque Terre.

Corniglia

On three of its sides, the village is surrounded by vineyards and terraces – the fourth side slopes steeply down cliffs into the sea.
Corniglia has ancient roots – it was once a Roman village, and has retained its agricultural heritage over the years. Getting here can take some effort, and always means a hike – even the train station is connected by a footpath which consists of 377 steps.
What is Corniglia best for?
Corniglia is good for two things in particular – dramatic views and quiet. It’s definitely where to stay in Cinque Terre if you are looking for a peaceful place. Situated around its small harbor, Manarola is an idyllic sight.
