With its 13 charming, quaint towns and incredible coastal views, the Amalfi Coast is one of my favorite places in the world and I will be happy to share everything I know about it with you – so that you get to love it too.

If you are planning a holiday in this part of Italy, you are probably trying to find a good place to stay. The problem is that there are many small towns where you can base yourself, each of them offering a different kind of experience. Don’t worry though! In this post, I will highlight the best places to stay in the Amalfi Coast, with a selection of the best towns and the best hotels in each of them. There is something for every budget and need!

Where To Stay In The Amalfi Coast

Positano – where to stay in the Amalfi Coast for first timers

Too big to be a village, too small to be a city, Positano is just the right size for a quiet escape. This picturesque town along the Amalfi Coast is home to beautiful beaches like the one you’ll find at the bottom of Via Fornillo – it’s definitely where to stay in the Amalfi Coast if you want access to a good beach. A walk through the narrow streets reveals top restaurants, little boutique shops and snug cafes. The stunning coastal scenery is made all that more beautiful by the homes stacked along the cliffs.

Il San Pietro di Positano

At Il San Pietro di Positano, you’ll get a five-star luxury experience overlooking the sea. On-site, you’ll find an outdoor pool, spa, tennis court, fitness center and two gourmet restaurants. The well-appointed rooms feature free Wi-Fi, televisions, minibars and balconies.

Each morning a complimentary buffet breakfast is served but one of the best things about this hotel is the beautiful private beach that can only be reached via a cliffside elevator. Swim in warm, clear waters and when you’re ready for a break, head to the beachside bar and enjoy a glass of wine or a cocktail.

Positano

Villa Rosa

If you’re seeking a touch of luxury at a budget-friendly price, Villa Rosa is where to stay in the Amalfi Coast! Situated on the side of a cliff overlooking the sparkling sea, this hotel is a seven-minute walk away from Positano Beach. Your air-conditioned room features a television, minifridge, furnished terrace and Wi-Fi. You can upgrade to a room with sea views and a whirlpool tub. Enjoy a complimentary continental breakfast before starting the day’s adventure.

B&B Il Canneto

While you’ll save a ton of money by staying at B&B Il Canneto, that doesn’t mean the hotel falls short on location, service and amenities. Your airy room overlooking the sea features Wi-Fi, a television and a terrace. The on-site bar is where you’ll enjoy snacks and beverages with coastal views and breakfast is served each morning.

Amalfi – best place to stay if you don’t want to drive

Amalfi is the biggest town on the Amalfi Coast and also a UNESCO World Heritage Site, so you’ll find many historic buildings and attractions. Since it’s the main town in the area, it’s also the best connected one so it’s easier to get there if you don’t have a car – there are plenty of buses and ferries going there.

Enjoy an old-world atmosphere as you walk the narrow streets trying to decide which one of the fabulous seafood restaurants you’ll dine in.

Admire the incredible coastal beauty with cliffs and beaches. Museo della Carta, Amalfi Cathedral, Torre dello Ziro Watchtower, Chiostro del Paradiso and Il Duoglio Spiaggia Beach are some of the attractions you’ll find in Amalfi.

Hotel Santa Caterina

Hotel Santa Caterina is where to stay in the Amalfi Coast if you have the budget to splurge. This upscale five-star property on a hill overlooking the sea has two restaurants, a bar, an outdoor pool, a spa and fitness facilities. The air-conditioned rooms have Wi-Fi, satellite television, minibars and balconies or terraces.

Hotel Luna Convento

You want to stay somewhere top-notch but you want to save as much money as possible to do other things on your trip. Hotel Luna Convento is the place for you! This four-star monastery-turned-hotel features stunning views, lovely decor, an outdoor saltwater pool and a restaurant that serves free breakfast every morning. All rooms have sea views and some even have balconies.

Residenza Luce

On the Amalfi Coast, budget doesn’t necessarily mean no-frills or low quality and such is the case at the four-star Residenza Luce. This lovely bed and breakfast has rooms that feature Wi-Fi, satellite television and en suite bathrooms. Some of the larger suites also have a Jacuzzi. Breakfast is served each morning on the terrace and many attractions and restaurants are only steps away.

Praiano – where to stay in the Amalfi Coast for a chilled vibe

Although Praiano isn’t as well-known as some of the other towns on the Amalfi Coast, it’s no less amazing. After all, the little fishing village is a UNESCO World Heritage Site with spectacular coastal views and a laid-back atmosphere. Some of the village’s attractions include Torre di Grado and Church of San Giovanni Battista that features a tiled floor from the 12th century. The town is also home to two of the area’s best beaches, Marina di Praia Beach and Gavitella Beach.

Casa Angelina

Staying at the fabulous Casa Angelina means you’ll relax in style while enjoying fine dining, luxury spa amenities and an indoor pool. This is easily one of the best places to stay in the Amalfi Coast! This stylish five-star hotel overlooks the Mediterranean Sea and offers direct access to a beautiful beach. The spacious rooms are equipped with balconies, Wi-Fi and televisions and breakfast is included with your stay.

Hotel Pellegrino

Located on a hillside overlooking the village and sea, Hotel Pellegrino is an enchanting place to make your base for a few nights. Villa Rufolo Ravello where to stay in the Amalfi Coast

Ravello – the most charming town on the Amalfi Coast

Not the biggest, nor the most popular town on the Amalfi Coast but certainly the most charming and definitely worth a stop. The most striking feature of Ravello is its stunning location more than 300 meters above the sea. The town is known for its cliffside gardens including the ones at the 13th-century Villa Rufolo and Hotel Villa Cimbrone.

In the center of Ravello, you’ll see many historic buildings and piazzas but it’s the areas near the coast that’ll make you feel like you’re a world away from any city. Some of Ravello’s attractions include Castiglione Beach and Museo del Corallo Camo.

Hotel Villa Cimbrone

Elegant. Luxurious. Historic. These are just some of the words one could use to describe the amazing five-star Hotel Villa Cimbrone, easily one of the best places to stay in the Amalfi Coast. Situated in an 11th-century building on top of a hill overlooking the sea, this property features a fine dining restaurant, a pool, two bars and a gym.

All rooms include minibars, free Wi-Fi and televisions but if you’re seeking ultimate luxury, go for an upgrade and get a room with a fireplace and whirlpool tub.

Palazzo Confalone

Palazzo Confalone is the perfect mid-range stay where you can relax in style without spending a fortune. A swimming pool is on-site and the comfortable rooms are air-conditioned and feature Wi-Fi and minibars.

Hotel Villa Fraulo

When you stay at Hotel Villa Fraulo, you don’t only get to stay in a medieval villa overlooking the sea, you also get a great deal while still having access to fantastic amenities including an infinity pool, restaurant, spa and bar. How does a room with a marble bathroom sound? That room comes equipped with a balcony or terrace and Wi-Fi. You’ll also enjoy the complimentary breakfast.

Maiori – where to stay in the Amalfi Coast for beach time

Maiori’s biggest claim to fame is its sandy beach which is the longest and most beautiful beach on the Amalfi Coast. As you explore the town you’ll see many historic buildings and find attractions including the 13th-century Church of Santa Maria a Mare and Castle of San Nicola. Norman Tower is the best place to head to at sunset and a boat trip to the Grottoes of Maiori is highly recommended.

Hotel Botanico San Lazzaro

Hotel Botanico San Lazzaro is a five-star upscale property located on a hill with spectacular sea views. It features fine dining, an outdoor spa, pool, two bars, gym, hot tub and direct access to a private beach. Minori – best place to stay for foodies

Also known as the “City of Taste” due to its renowned culinary reputation, Minori is also famously known for its stunning scenery consisting of hills and coastline. This UNESCO World Heritage Site is perfect for travelers who want to escape the crowds but still be immersed in history and culture.

In Minori, you’ll find many little restaurants serving the delicious pasta and seafood it’s known for, a beach and many other attractions including Basilica di Santa Trofimena and Roman Maritime Archeological Villa.

Hotel Minori Palace

Hotel Minori Palace is a four-star hotel located in the Lattari Mountains Regional Park. A gourmet restaurant and bar are on-site and the guest rooms feature Wi-Fi, satellite television, balconies and minibars. The morning breakfast buffet is included with your stay.

Hotel Villa Romana

Hotel Villa Romana offers guests top-quality accommodation at a fantastic price. On-site, there are two restaurants, an outdoor pool, bar and spa. Furore best places to stay in the Amalfi Coast

Furore – a lesser known place to stay in the Amalfi Coast

Just because many people don’t know it exists, doesn’t mean Furore isn’t worth stopping for. If nothing else, this little village’s famous beach just might be the top thing you see during your trip! Fiordo di Furore is thought by many to be the most beautiful beach on earth.

It’s hard to find because it’s tucked inside a huge fjord but once you find it, you won’t be able to take your eyes off the little beach with sparkling blue waters protected on both sides by high cliffs that are joined by a bridge. Other popular attractions in Furore include the Church of Saint Giacomo and the murals that are painted on some of the houses.

Villa Le Baste

At Villa Le Baste, you’ll enjoy beachfront luxury with access to a private beach area, outdoor pool, restaurant, bar and garden. Spacious, air-conditioned rooms come equipped with satellite television, Wi-Fi, kitchenettes and bathrobes. Breakfast is served each morning.

Hotel On The Rocks Tirreno

An outdoor pool, restaurant, bar, hot tub and incredible views are just some of the things you’ll enjoy during a stay at Hotel On the Rocks Tirreno. The guest rooms are bright and cozy and feature televisions and Wi-Fi.

Sorrento – where to stay for easy access to the Amalfi Coast

Before you reach the Amalfi Coast, you’ll reach the town of Sorrento. While not an official stop on the coast, it’s worth visiting. Situated on top of cliffs overlooking the sea, Sorrento is known for its long history, culture and lemon groves.

As you explore Sorrento, you’ll find many attractions including Piazza Tasso, the 14th-century Chiesa di San Francesco, Museo Correale di Terranova and Villa Comunale di Sorrento. Leonelli’s Beach is the perfect place to spend a sunny day relaxing onshore or swimming in the clear, refreshing waters of the bay before continuing your journey.
